This package is created for those who want to visit and see
the rural and historical culture of Atlantic Canada, and experience an outdoor camping and canoeing experience. This vacation requires some physical stamina. You should be capable of taking a brisk 5km. walk and be an active person. This package can be purchased in its entirety or it can be customized by exchanging day activities with ones from our other packages. Days can be added or omitted to this package. Our price is for the package listed. The price will be adjusted for groups, clients providing their own transortation, and days omitted or added.
DAY 1: You will be met at the St. John Airport and welcomed
to Canada. We will spend the day visiting historical Martello Tower and the world famous Bay of Fundy tides. You might spend the evening visiting downtown St. John or lounging at one of the many nightspots. If the group prefers, we could watch the sun setting over the St. John River from a room at one of the local inns.
DAY 2: We will head north through the St. John River
valley. The first stop is the capital city of Fredericton. A downtown walk along the city green, watching the changing of the guard at Officers Square, or a visit to the Beaverbrook Art Gallery are all options. Whether we have lunch at one of the many fine restaurants or a picnic at Mactaquac Provincial Park, we will spend the afternoon revisiting the 18th century at
Kings Landing Historical Settlement. This Loyalist village is authentic
in every way and features two water-powered mills. Continuing on our way, we will cross the world's longest covered bridge at Hartland and view the rolling hills until we reach our destination and a warm welcome at the Tobique View Motel. Checking into your suite you will find kitchenette facilities and two ice cold Moosehead Beer, compliments of Canada's oldest brewery. While relaxing in the bar or on the deck overlooking the Tobique River, we will plan our week's activities.
DAY 3: The morning will be spent becoming familiar with
your camping gear, pack, and canoe. Together, we will prepare your pack and have an orientation session about canoes. During a spring afternoon, we may gather fiddlehead ferns along the bank of the river for dinner. In the Autumn, we may travel a country road to Maggie's Falls or visit local shops. The evenings are the best time to observe wild animals. Perhaps you may wish to inspect a working beaver pond, a feeding area for white-tail deer, or a feeding station set up for American Black Bears.
DAY 4: We rise with the sun, enjoy a good breakfast, stow
our gear and head north along the Tobique River as it bends and winds
through the Appalachian Highlands. Prehistoric volcano domes stand silently, marking a time in evolution. Entering Mount Carleton Provincial Park, we will drop off some of our gear at basecamp before beginning our hiking adventure. Starting off along the Caribou Brook Trail, we will hike the
ancient aboriginal portage road until we begin our ascent up the Dry Brook Trail to Mount Head. Then, on to the fire tower that adorns the summit of Mount Carleton, 820 metres(2,685') - the highest point in Maritime Canada. After enjoying the view and our trail lunch, we will descend below the tree line to set up our wilderness campsite.
DAY 5: After sleeping under the stars and being awakened by
the birds calling the sun to rise, breakfast will be prepared and camp
broken as we begin our trek back to our canoes. Hiking back over Mount Carleton, we will head north to Mount Sagamook. Looking down the glacier tilled slopes on to Nictau Lake you will have difficulty beleiving that
you climbed so high. The out-croppings of volcanic tuff that withstood the
last ice-age make great pedestals for photographing the event. Descending from Sagamook we return to our basecamp in the early afternoon. A juicy steak dinner and a bottle of wine can be enjoyed along the shores of the lake, affording a luxury in the wilderness. A sunset paddle on the lake to admire the mountain slopes, an evening bonfire and haunting call of the loon serenading you to sleep will prepare you for the canoe leg of our journey.
DAY 6: Securing our gear in wet bags, we will embark on a
voyage in watercrafts that have remained unchanged for 5000 years. We will paddle the route used by Native North American Indians as they travelled the Tobique to and from their winter and summer camps, then later by French fur traders in search of beaver pelts, and not so long ago, by loggers driving the logs down the river to the mills in Plaster Rock. The upper reaches of the river system is an ecosystem for black bears, moose,
coyotes, beavers and owls. At every bend in the river you will sense
the feeling of the forerunning travellers. In the late afternoon hours we will begin to scout for a place to pitch our tents and build a bonfire on the banks of the river.
DAY 7: Our last day afloat. The river's personality
changes from a twisting turning trail to a broader sweeping river. The animals change as well. White-tail deer become visible and the sky holds larger raptors like the American Bald Eagle and Osprey. We will pull the canoes ashore in the tiny village of Riley Brook. While relaxing
at one of local lodges, we will await our return ride to the Tobique
View Motel. After a hot shower and an evening meal of Atlantic Salmon, we will relax in the bar and watch a video of your life as a voyager.
DAY 8: Today takes us shopping and touring in Plaster
Rock. We proceed to the farming community of New Denmark with it's Immigrant House and Museum. After this, off to the Acadian town of Grand Falls which features the famous falls and gorge. Perhaps we could take a side-trip into the United States to pick up an American souvenir. During the afternoon we might stop at "Tobique Nations" so you can see samples of Native North American culture, past and present. In the evening you are invited to be guests of the Chamberlains at a Canadian-style BBQ and party.
DAY 9: Depart for St. John.

Package #2 - 8 Day "Week of Adventure" Tour.

This package is designed for those who wish to visit Canada's historical and cultural rural outdoors and still return to the comfort of a motel room in the evening. This package can be enjoyed in the summer as well as the spring and fall seasons. The package can be purchased in its entirety or be customized by exchanging day activities from other packages. Days can be added or omitted. Our price is for the package listed but will be adjusted for groups, clients that provide their own transportation, and days
omitted and added.
DAY 1: You will be met at the St. John Airport and welcomed
to Canada. We will spend the day visiting historical Martello Tower and the world famous Bay of Fundy tides. You might spend the evening visiting downtown St. John or lounging at one of the many nightspots. While relaxing in the bar or on the deck overlooking the Tobique River, together, we will plan our week's activities.
DAY 3: Today is picnic day at Maggie's Falls. The motel
staff will pack our cooler and off we go. Travelling along the river valley we will cross the only covered bridge in Victoria county. After reaching the area, we will descend the embankment to watch the water cascade over several drops. The rocks are also fun to climb and the water refreshing to swim in. A deep pool has been created by the water's erosion and for adventurers who wish to take the 3 metre plunge, a cool bath awaits at the bottom. This adventure is truly a favourite with children. A delicious evening meal will be enjoyed at the motel followed by some local
wildlife sightseeing - as the evening is the best time to observe wild
animals. Perhaps you may wish to inspect a working beaver pond, a feeding area for white-tail deer, or a feeding station set up for American Black Bear.
DAY 4: We rise with the sun, enjoy a good breakfast, stow our gear and head north along the Tobique River as it bends and winds through the Appalachian Highlands. Prehistoric volcano domes stand silently, marking a time in evolution. Entering Mount Carleton Provincial Park we will choose a hiking trail that suits our plans. Available are leisurely walks in the forest or more strenuous all-day hikes. There are plenty of streams to cool hot feet after the trail is finished. A picnic lunch and a dip in the Nictau lake will prepare us for the evening drive home.
DAY 5: A lazy relaxing day lies ahead. Floating along the ancient
highway of the Native North American Indians, the Tobique River, we can
enjoy the sun's warm rays. This day trip requires little effort as the warm and gentle current carries the canoe downstream. The river is home to a
host of birds, from tiny shore birds to the large bald eagles that cruise
overhead, searching for an unsuspecting fish. We can stop for a swim and
lunch at an ancient aboriginal campground. After a day in the sun we may choose to spend the evening visiting a Canadian home or building a bonfire along the river shore and roasting marshmallows. If you wish, we can go fishing for scrappy smallmouth bass or trout that hide in the shady
corners of brooks.
DAY 6: Today takes us shopping and touring in Plaster
Rock. We then proceed to the farming community of New Denmark and it's Immigrant House and Museum and later, to the Acadian town of Grand Falls which features the famous falls and gorge.
