Hiking Adventures...

Whether it be a series of relaxing weekend walks along river bank trails or a challenging adventure in the wilderness along the northern reaches of the Appalachian Trail system, we have access to a variety of hiking trails. Many of these are located in the province's largest provincial park, the crown of which is Mount Carleton, the largest mountain in Canada's Maritimes. Located in the northern most range of the Appalachian Mountains, the 820 metre (2,500') high Mount Carleton is but one of the many peaks in the area. Enjoy a backpacking trip or bring your canoe or kayak and paddle pristine lakes while enjoying the natural scenery of the endless virgin forest. While you pause on the trail and lean against a steel-grey beech tree, silence will amplify natures' sounds; red squirrels bouncing over leaves, blackcapped chickadees beckoning you onward, and the wind strumming the tree tops. Many types of wildlife will pop up during your outdoor journey, so bring your camera and lots of film. Brochures on the local parks and wildlife are available upon request.

Photography...

New Brunswick's nickname is "The Picture Province". The scenery is boundless with animals, weathered covered bridges, rolling hills of trees in their autumn dress, and small villages that dot the landscape. If you wish to dedicate your vacation to photography, please let us know in advance. Different seasons of the year provide opportunities for pictures, especially for viewing wildlife.

Ornithology, Bird Watching...

Tobique valley is a bird watchers paradise. It is on the migratory flight path of thousands of species of birds. Northern New Brunswick's mixed forests, lakes, ponds, marshes and brooks provide a diversified habitat for a variety of birds, from Bald Eagles and Ospreys you can see hunting fish in front of the motel, to the playful Canada Jay that will share a campfire and persuade you to give up a portion of your lunch. We are sure to add a few new species to your bird lists.

Fishing...

T obique River Motel is located directly on the Tobique River so if you are an angler and bring your tackle, you can do battle with Small Mouth Bass. These scrappy little fighters weigh between 1 and 5 pounds and can make several leaps from the water trying to shake the lure free. You can wade through the a shady forest stream enticing Brook Trout to nibble at the end of your line. Domestic fish are raised locally in many ponds and provide great fishing action. A Canadian fishing trip is usually an adventure in itself. Sighting a Bald Eagle, hearing the haunting cry of the Common Loon or sharing a pond with a thirsty moose might all be part of the fishing experience.

"Playing" in New Brunswick's "White Gold"...

New Brunswick boasts over 9,000 Kilometres of unbeleivable snowmobile trails - and the Appalachian Mountain area has it's share! These well maintained trails will take you to places only snowmobilers get to experience - frozen waterfalls and moonlight in the deep woods! Following your day's adventures and explorations, you can retire to your comfortable accommodation in our motel or authentic log cabin.

Our Province offers over 1,000 Kilometres of cross-country ski trails and an annual snowfall ranging from 200-400 cm (80-160"). For the avid snowshoer or cross country skiier, spend the day trekking through beautiful forests, and the evening relaxing with friends.
